A Lincoln man is facing a number of charges after police say he threatened to kill and assaulted a LPD officer Monday night inside the Kwik Shop at 2940 N 14th Street.
Officers were called by an employee who reported the man was trespassing. When officers arrived the employee said the man was in the store, intoxicated, and causing a disturbance. The employee told the man to leave several times but he refused to do so. Officer Erin Spilker says when the officer approached the man, he threatened to kill the officer.
The officer determined that due to his intoxication level he needed to be placed into protective custody to go to The Bridge. As he tried to take the man into custody, Spilker says he punched the officer several times in the head. After a lengthy struggle, the officer was able to place the man into custody.
The officer suffered bruises and abrasions that did not require medical treatment. The officer was able to identify the man as 48 year old, Calvin Bloom, who was also wanted for an arson investigation at Bennet Martin Library on March 30th. In that case, library staff reported a fire had been set in the north entryway to the building. During a review of the security video, officers observed two men gathering items to start multiple fires that caused around $600 damage to the building.
Officers identified one of the men as Bloom. He was arrested for Arson and Criminal Mischief for this incident. He was also arrested for Assault on a Police Officer, felony Resisting Arrest Subsequent Offense, Criminal Trespassing, and Obstruct a Police Officer.
