Lincoln Police were sent to 27th and Sheridan Blvd around 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 29th on reports of gunshots fired in the area. Officers talked to witnesses who said they heard the gunfire and saw a man yelling and walking eastbound from the area.
Officers found 37 year old Kenyon Watson nearby. He was yelling at officers as they approached. They asked Watson to put his hands up but he refused and continued to walk away. He was seen with his hand in the front of his pants and he refused to remove it. When other officers arrived, they tried to take him into custody but he resisted arrest. That resulted in a struggle but he was eventually taken into custody.
Officers found a loaded handgun in the front of his sweat pants where his hand had been. The firearm had an extended magazine and there were several rounds missing.
Officers searched the area and found several shell casings and unspent rounds of ammunition that matched the kind located in the handgun.
Watson refused to provide his name so a mobile AFIS machine was used to identify him. Watson had previous felony convictions and was not allowed to possess a firearm. Witnesses were able to positively identify Watson as the man they saw as well.
Watson was arrested for unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest.
At last check, officers did not find any victims or damaged property from the gunfire.
