A Lincoln man is sentenced to 20 1/2 years in federal prison and 10 years of supervised release. Matt Tibbels, age 59, was sentenced for production of child pornography. There is no parole in the federal system. Tibbels was also ordered to pay $29,000 which will contribute to funds established for victims of these types of cases.
This case started as part of a Freenet peer-to-peer investigation by the FBI concerning a user who was receiving child pornography. The FBI traced the IP address associated with the investigation to Tibbels’ home. That residence was also operated as a home daycare.
On October 5, 2021, a warrant was served where several devices were taken. An examination of the devices showed a total of 887 images of child pornography files and 147 video files. FBI agents saw a video and seven images that showed a child changing clothing in the main bedroom of the Tibbels’ family home. The child was identified as a child who attended the daycare.
This case was investigated by the FBI.
