Four Chickens Die In Christmas Eve Garage Fire

By Tom Stanton Dec 27, 2022 | 10:50 AM

A Christmas Eve fire in an detached garage near 40th and Calvert caused about $20,000 in damage.  When LFR crews arrived around 7:15 a.m. the rear side of the garage was on fire.

The flames did not spread to the home.  An LFR fire inspector determined a heat lamp was the likely source of ignition.  It was determined the owner of the garage had a small chicken coup in the garage and due to the extreme cold had put up a heat lamp in the coup to help keep the chickens warm.

Four chickens were lost in the fire.
