Lincoln Police are investigating the theft of off-road diesel fuel from a land development project on Alvo Road between 14th-27th Street. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says officers spoke with a contractor who said fuel had been taken from their earth moving equipment and fuel tanker truck sometime over the weekend

“The tanker was filled Saturday the 14th with 1,000 gallons of off-road diesel and three pieces of equipment are missing approximately 100 gallons,” Vollmer says.

The total estimate of the fuel taken is $4,000. About $200 worth of hand tools were also taken from the fuel truck.  Vollmer says off-road diesel is identical to the normal diesel fuel, but red dye is added to identify that it has not been taxed.

Off-road diesel is commonly used in farm and construction equipment that do not travel on the public roadways.
