Lincoln Police arrested two 18 year old men after they tried to run from officers near UNL’s City Campus late Thursday night. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says around 11:45 an officer saw a car that had been violating traffic laws near 17th and R Streets.
“When the officer turned on his lights the driver, 18-year-old Zachary Brown of Seward, sped up as he tried to flee the traffic stop,” Vollmer says. He says Brown then hit a curb and drove onto a sidewalk before the car came to a stop near 19th and S Streets.
Vollmer says Brown and his 18-year-old passenger got out of the car and began running, but officers were able to catch them. Vollmer says Brown was arrested for DUI, minor in possession, willful reckless driving and other charges. His blood alcohol level was .138.
The passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant and cited for obstructing a peace officer.
