The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department wrapped up it’s ‘Buckle Up, Every Trip, Every Time’ enforcement campaign on Sunday. It began last Wednesday with a high visibility safety checkpoint on Highway 6 just west of 98th Street.
LSO says from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. nine deputies checked vehicles to ensure all occupants were properly restrained, all the proper documentation was in the vehicle and for traffic violations. 222 vehicles were checked which resulted in 6 criminal arrests, 11 traffic citations and 27 warning or defect cards being issued.
Extra deputies were assigned to continued enforcement efforts throughout the weekend. During these efforts an additional 55 vehicles were contacted which resulted in 30 traffic citations and 61 warning or defect cards being issued.
Overtime for the additional deputies working during the mobilization will be paid through a mini grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
