Lincoln Police say a 35-year-old man was the victim of a scam earlier this week after getting a call from someone claiming to be an LSO deputy. Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says the victim was told he missed jury duty and had a warrant for his arrest. He was told to pay the fine by bitcoin.
“The victim withdrew $2,500 from his bank account and deposited it into a Bitcoin machine,” Thomas says. “After completing the transaction, he realized this was a scam and called police.”
Thomas reminds residents that law enforcement will never call and ask you to pay a fine with bitcoin, gift cards or Green Dot cards.
