DBK Day in Lincoln!

By Cory Edmondson Feb 6, 2025 | 4:49 PM

It was an electric experience at The Bob! We have a new coach for the Husker Volleyball Team. On Thursday (2/6), The Devaney hosted a Welcome Event for Dani Busboom Kelly. The big town of Cortland showed up. Adams! Freeman Falcons! We walk in and the big screens were playing a replay of the 2006 NCAA Championship match! People were cheering and commenting about how “the game has changed.” Total epic-ness.

Here are the takeaways and killer action shots from our boy Kenny!

1) Lot of love for former Coach John Cook. Everybody mentioned him in their speech and expressed their respect for the legend.

2) Local support from Freeman, Adams, Cortland, and places DBK has lived.

3) Troy Dannen, Athletic Director, gave some knee-slapping zingers!
a) He took jabs at Rhule’s special teams – DBK’s husband was a long snapper and Dannen suggested Rhule “needs help” on special teams.
b) Governor Pillen was sitting next to Cook – fellow cowboys and horse riders. Dannen commented that during DBK’s interview, she was asked if she knew how to ride horses. She did not. Dannen suggested the Governor follow DBK’s lead.

4) The video they played was super emotional. Watching her old school highlights from high school, UNL, and as a coach for UNL were totally amazing.

5) The fan base showed up – another hat tip to Dannen – he said: “If this was a regular season volleyball match, the number of people here would rank about 15th in the country for total attendance at a regular season match!”

. . . the coody

We should be pumped for the new coach! And we need to make DBK an annual event. . . like a state holiday, with time off, and extra pay.
