In these times we need a good story to make life more bearable. Everyday we hear about how things are bad and only getting worse. Then we get a story like this.
According to the local news in Portland, OR, last year a high school student entered his school with a loaded shotgun.
The news story was presented as the student was met by a school coach, Keanon Lowe, who saved the day by tackling the student taking the the gun away, while school staffers held the boy at gunpoint until the police arrived.
Well….that isn’t quite what happened. As a matter of fact, that isn’t what happened at all.
Aside from the points that there was a student with a gun walking through the school and Coach Lowe was present, the boy was not tackled at all. The truth has now come out with a video showing the real story. Watch the video and you will see Coach Lowe deescalate the situation by hugging the student.
While the student did plead guilty to 2 counts of possession of a fire arm in a public place, the other thing Coach Lowe did was prevent a suicide, as the student’s intention was to commit suicide.on campus.
Thank God for good stories and people like Coach Lowe.

As someone who has struggled with depression and suicidal ideation for the majority of my life, I beg you to seek help if you have feelings of hopelessness. Things are never as bad as they feel. One place to go for help is The National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255. They are an ear who can listen and talk to. They can also help you find someone who can help with therapy, which is free of charge in many cases.
