A Pepperoni Shortage? Say It Ain't So!

By News Aug 18, 2020 | 6:58 AM

For the past 6 months we have seen shortages in toilet paper, Clorox wipes, Lysol, masks, beef, chicken, rice, and a number of other items.  Now comes a new shortage, pepperoni.

The good part is the larger restaurants have not been largely affected by the pepperoni shortage. So why is this happening?

There are pork processors that of had to work with reduced sats, this means fewer people to make the food. Because of this many of the producers have reduce the amount of food that they are sending out to stores. And considering that pepperoni is supposedly a more difficult meat to produce, the reduction in force equals a reduction in the number of packages to pepperoni as that can be sent to stores..

Here’s what makes this even worse, the price of pepperoni has also risen. It’s the old paradigm supply and demand.  More people ordering pepperoni pizza is during it the pandemic, equals greater demand, in some cases rising pizza costs

But fear not, pepperoni is not gone and it will not become unaffordable. It will just be scarce for a while like toilet paper hand sanitizer, you get it
