A 78 year old woman LPD says was shot by her 80 year old husband last weekend at their home has died. Acting Police Chief Brian Jackson says Janet Kotopka died early Wednesday morning.
She suffered a gunshot wound to the head Sunday morning at her home near 18th and Dakota. Based on evidence collected at the scene and witness interviews Jackson says John Kotopka was the one who pulled the trigger.
John Kotopka was arrested for first degree assault and use of a deadly weapon and is being held on $500,000 bond. Jackson says the Lancaster County Attorney will determine if charges will be upgraded. Janet Kotopka suffered from Alzheimers disease.
