Great Debate Brewing Between Ralston, Seward

By Tom Stanton Jun 29, 2021 | 2:31 PM

As the Fourth of July weekend draws closer there is a great debate shaping up between two communities well known for their Independence Day celebrations.

State Senator Steve Lathrop, who district includes Ralston, and State Senator Mark Kolterman, whose district includes Seward, will “debate” which community has the best  4th of July/Independence Day celebration at on Thursday, July 1st at 10:30 AM at the Ralston Arena Sideroom near 72nd and Q

The event will also be streamed via Facebook Live on the Ralston Arena page and the City of Seward Facebook page.  Both senators have battled on the floor of the Legislature over the question of which City hosted the best Independence  event and now are taking their debate to the public.

They will be joined by Seward Mayor Josh Eickmeier and Ralston Mayor Don Groesser. The debate is intended to help promote both parades and let the public know the events are happening after the COVID-19 virus led to the cancellation of both parades last year.

Seward has been the site of a parade, fireworks display and other events since 1969.  Ralston will host its 61st Independence Day celebration with a parade, fireworks display and other events.
