A 40 year old Hickman man suffered serious injuries to both hands after a fireworks accident on July 3. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Captain John Vik says the man was apparently trying to fire an artillery shell around 9:25 p.m. but it went off before making it into the tube causing traumatic injuries.
A sheriff’s deputy responding to the scene applied a tourniquet. The man was taken to a local hospital to be treated. The exact extent of the injuries are not known.
The man was attending a gathering where other people were also setting off fireworks.
