Lincoln Man Shot To Death On Boat At Branched Oak Lake

By Tom Stanton Jul 20, 2022 | 10:34 AM

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says a 42 year old Lincoln man was shot to death on a boat at Branched Oak Lake Marina Tuesday night.  Sheriff Terry Wagner says Benjamin Case of Lincoln was on his boat with four friends around 11:30 p.m. when a man walked onto the boat from the dock.

“Five people were socializing, having a little party on this boat. They feel somebody walk on the boat and the victim opens the door to the cuddy cabin  and immediately gets shot twice.”

Wagner says Case died at the scene.  The other four people jumped into lake to escape and they were not hurt.  The suspect got into a vehicle and drove away northbound from the marina.  “Terribly tragic situation,”  Wagner says.

Wagner says the gunman seemed to know where he was going “He knew where he was headed.  It wasn’t a random situation, we don’t believe,” Wagner says.   A handgun was used in the shooting, but no weapon has been recovered.

Interviews are being conducted with the other people who were on the boat and video camera footage is being examined to gather more information.  Wagner says they are still interviewing people.  Anyone with information should call LSO at (402) 441-6500 or Crime Stoppers (402) 475-3600.
