The Rhule Press Conference was good. I have high hopes for this dude. Here are the takeaways – from my “just moved to Lincoln” perspective.
- He respects Tom Osborne.
I joke with buddies back home that before every meal we pray to Tom Osborne. Matt Rhule dropped Osborne’s name pretty quick in his press conference. He shared cool stories about how Nebraska broke his Penn State heart when he was a kid and a college player. - Support to his family and wife
Trev Alberts talked about “the grind.” When it was Rhule’s turn to talk, he mentioned his wife and her intense work ethic. Apparently, she drove 12 hours (from Lincoln to Charlotte) to make sure their kids went to school, picked them up, and drove them back to make it to the press conference – with a smile on her face. - Appreciation for the Lincoln community / Husker Nation
Rhule talked about how he was going to try his hardest to be part of the community and easily accessible. From his enthusiasm, I don’t think it was a “campaign promise” - Mickey Mentions
Rhule didn’t go too deep on Coach Mickey or his plans with coaching staff but he did a few references and spoke highly of Coach Mickey - Humor
The dude cracked a few jokes. The graphic that has been going around on social media where he is holding headphones and yelling at the field? He joked about how he wished he still looked like that but wasn’t sure if that was even his body! He thanked Tom Osborne, his wife, his family, Trev Alberts, and whoever it was who made that graphic.
