For the 14th consecutive year, the Arbor Day Foundation is partnering with NBCUniversal to plant 25,000 trees in areas of need around the country. The collaboration will be acknowledged during NBC’s two-hour “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” live program, airing Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 PM CT.

Dan Lambe, CEO of the Arbor Day Foundation, told KLIN News, “We’re excited to be partnering with NBCUniversal for the 14th consecutive year to plant thousands of trees as a way to celebrate the lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas tree this year.”

The Arbor Day Foundation, is headquartered in Lincoln, is planting trees in forests of need around the country. With the support of NBCUniversal, these trees help to clean rivers and streams, support healthy biodiversity in the wild, improve animals’ habitats. Additionally, since the United States’ forests catch about 16 percent of the nation’s yearly carbon emissions annually, trees ultimately slow the effects of climate change.

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation has been essential in planting nearly 500 million trees around the world. The 25,000 trees are a small but significant number in its recently announced goal to plant 500 million trees in just the next five years.
