Nearly 70 Lincoln Southeast High School students walked out of class Monday morning to bring awareness to their concerns regarding proposed transgender legislation in the Nebraska legislature.
One of those bills is LB 574, which would ban gender-affirming care for those under the age of 19. The walkout began at 9:50 and ended around 10:30.
LPS says staff monitored and supervised the student organized walkout. The district says students were peaceful and respectful. Students who left for the walkout and returned to the same class were recorded as tardy. If they left for longer, they were counted as absent.
The campus was closed to all visitors during the walkout.
