Lincoln Woman Clings To Car As Thief Drives Off

By Tom Stanton Jul 28, 2023 | 12:55 PM

A Lincoln woman ended up in the hospital after trying to stop a man from stealing her car Thursday night.  Captain Todd Kocian says the woman saw the man stumbling down a sidewalk near 15th and Garfield around 9:30 p.m.

She says the man appeared to be intoxicated and offered to give him a ride home.  Kocian says she drove the man to the area of 18th and ‘D’ Street. After getting out of the car, the man stumbled and fell to the ground.

“She exited the vehicle and attempted to help him,  however he jumped up, got back into the vehicle and began to drive away.  She clung to the vehicle but was able to get back inside.” Kocian says the woman yelled at the man to try and get him to stop.

He eventually lost control of the car and struck a tree. The man got out and fled the area on foot.  The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The search continues for the suspect and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
