A Lincoln man was arrested after barricading himself in his apartment near 56th and Leighton around 6:30 Tuesday morning. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the Fugitive Task Force was looking for 48 year old John Helter , who was wanted on a felony drug warrant from Gage County and a shoplifting warrant from Lincoln.
“When they made entry into the apartment he threatened to jump out the window and then barricaded himself in a bedroom closet.” Houchin says Helter was armed with a pair of scissors and was threatening to harm himself.
He says deputies used pepper spray and fired a foam impact round into the closet but Helter refused to come out. He says a K-9 on a leash was eventually placed in the closet and Helter was taken into custody around 10:00 a.m.
He was taken to a hospital to receive treatment and then booked into the Lancaster County Jail.
