The Lincoln Police Department received recognition on Monday for its long time support of the Special Olympics in Nebraska.  LPD has raised nearly $7.5 million for the organization since 1986 through a number events, including the Law Enforcement Torch Relay.

“We are excited to recognize the Lincoln Police Department and our Lincoln Law Enforcement Torch Run leadership for all they have done to raise funds and awareness for our athletes,” says Carolyn Chamberlin, President and CEO of Special Olympics Nebraska. “Thank you for your work and dedication to foster inclusivity and unity in our community.”

LPD Assistant Police Chief Brian Jackson was presented with a symbolic torch from the 2010 Special Olympics USA Games, which were held in Lincoln.  Chamberlain says the torch symbolizes the enduring flame of inspiration and inclusivity that the Lincoln Police Department has ignited within the community.
