Man Arrested After Recklessly Driving Stolen Car Through Lincoln

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after Lincoln Police say he was caught driving a vehicle that was stolen a week ago. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says the 2017 Kia Optima  was taken from a home near 28th and ‘T’ Street on February 19.

Thomas says on Friday officers spotted the Kia at a gas station near 23rd and R Streets on Friday. “Recognizing the stolen vehicle, officers followed it as it drove away. The NSP Airwing tracked the vehicle as it recklessly drove through the city, almost causing several accidents.”

Thomas says the vehicle stopped near 30th and Apple where the driver and passenger got out and ran off.  “After a short foot chase, officers were able to detain the driver and recover the vehicle.”
19-year-old Donavan Garrett of Lincoln was arrested and booked into the Lancaster County Jail for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and theft by receiving.
