A 26 year old man is facing a variety of charges after Lincoln Police say he stole a car and assaulted an LPD officer. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says it started around 3:45 Saturday afternoon in the Walgreens Parking lot near 14th and Superior.
“The vehicle had been left running with the keys in the ignition while the victim went into the store,” Thomas says. The suspect then hit another vehicle as he was leaving the parking lot. Thomas says the owner spotted the car parked near Eiseley Library.
Officers found Michael Dixon inside the library and took him into custody. “While he was being escorted to the cruiser, he began to resist. Officers restrained the suspect and during that struggle,
the suspect bit one of the officers on the leg,” Thomas says.
She says another officer received a cut on the leg from glass after a bottle of alcohol found on Dixon dropped and broke on the ground as he resisted. The office received three stitches at the hospital and was released.
Dixon was booked on several charges, including assaulting an officer, theft by unlawful taking, resisting arrest, and no operator’s license.
