The University of Nebraska Board of Regents named Dr. Jeffrey Gold as a priority candidate to become the system’s new president during it’s meeting Wednesday morning. Dr. Gold is the current chancellor at UNMC and also served as UNO’s chancellor from 2017-2021.

“As an experienced leader in education, I firmly believe that Dr. Gold is poised to help us take advantage of these opportunities and to build a university for Nebraska’s future,” says Regent Elizabeth O’Connor. “I think not only can Nebraska look forward, but it should look forward to working with a leader like Dr. Gold.”

Regent Jim Scheer nominated Dr. Gold calling him a “dynamite fit” for the job.  Scheer says Gold  met the nine core leadership pillars they were looking for.  Chris Kabourek, University of Nebraska chief financial officer, has been serving as the interim president since the first of the year.

There will be a number of forums over the next 30 days to allow the public to ask questions and provide input. The next meeting will be April 19.
