A 27-year-old Lincoln man is facing charges after an LPD officer suffered several injuries while trying to take him into custody Saturday afternoon.  LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says officers were called to a home near 11th and Washington around 4:00 p.m. on a report of a domestic assault.

She says the person responsible was found driving near 11th and ‘D’ streets and officers initiated a traffic stop.  Thomas says Anthony Durand got out of his car and began running.  “Officers chased after him on foot and gave repeated commands for him to stop. While an officer was attempting to take him into custody, both fell to the ground in a parking lot.”

Thomas says the officer landed on a pickup truck trailer hitch, injuring his back. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance for significant bruising, redness, swelling and an abrasion to his back, along with several lacerations to his hand and knee.

“All injuries were directly sustained due to Durand’s reckless actions while knowingly resisting arrest,” Thomas says.  Durand was arrested and taken to the Lancaster County Jail where he was booked for 1) 3rd degree assault on an officer, Deg Assault on Police Officer and resisting arrest.
