Parks and Recreation staff will conduct a controlled burn from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, on about 12 acres of prairie in Wilderness Park between Pioneers Boulevard and Old Cheney Road.
The Yellow Trail between Pioneers Boulevard and Old Cheney Road will be closed until noon Saturday, April 25. Community members are advised to avoid the area during this project.
The city says controlled burns are a tool to manage large areas of native plants and grasses, reduce wildfire risk, and enhance wildlife habitat. Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
