The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents after gunfire was reported in a northwest Waverly neighborhood over the weekend. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says deputies responded to the area of 10810 Northloch Street on May 17.

“We had a group of friends, in the driveway, enjoying the evening and two volleys of rounds go by them, to the point that they can hear them whistling by ,” Houchin says.  He says one of the semi-automatic rounds struck a tire on a pickup truck and another ended up in the rear panel of a neighbor’s truck.

Houchin says they don’t believe this was intentional and it’s possible someone could have been doing target practice in a nearby field.  He’s urging whoever is responsible to stop before someone is seriously injured. “We can’t have this.  We’ve got kids out there and we can’t have people shooting, it’s concerning,” Houchin says.
