The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is reporting dozens of citations and several arrests following a recent traffic enforcement campaign aimed at improving roadway safety. The Sheriff’s Office took part in the national “Make It Click” mobilization from May 15th through May 31st, increasing patrols across Lancaster County to encourage seatbelt use and child restraint compliance.
During the campaign, deputies stopped 125 vehicles, issuing 99 traffic citations and 94 warning or defect cards. Three criminal arrests were also made. The most common violation was speeding, accounting for 52 citations. Deputies also cited drivers for seatbelt violations, driving under suspension, stop sign violations, registration and insurance offenses, and driving without a valid license.
One driver was arrested for driving under the influence. Criminal violations included possession of a controlled substance, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The additional enforcement effort was funded through a Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office grant, which covered overtime costs for deputies participating in the mobilization.
