A 31-year-old Ashland man is facing murder charges following a fatal shooting on Wednesday afternoon.  Saunders County Sheriff Chris Lichtenberg says 9-1-1 received a call just after 4:30 reporting a shooting in the 1700 block of Dawes Street.

After negotiating by phone with the suspect, Lichtenberg says Robert Haswell Jr. surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody by Ashland Police. He is being held without bond.

His father, 67-year-old Robert Haswell Sr.,  suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.  An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, June 6th.

Haswell Jr. is jailed in Saunders County on charges of First-Degree Murder and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony. Investigators are trying to determine what led to the shooting.
