Nebraska State Troopers will be stepping up patrols in Lincoln this weekend as thousands of fans flock to town for the Savannah Bananas World Tour. The popular exhibition baseball team will play at Haymarket Park tonight and at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, with both games expected to draw large crowds from across Nebraska and neighboring states.

State Patrol Colonel Bryan Waugh says the event is generating plenty of excitement, but he reminds drivers that safety should remain a priority. “This is an exciting weekend in Lincoln and a one-of-a-kind event at Memorial Stadium on Saturday,” Waugh says. “Just like fans have to be ready to make a play in the stands for a fan foul-out, drivers need to be focused on the road.”

To help keep traffic moving safely, troopers in eastern Nebraska will be working overtime around both games. Enforcement efforts will focus on impaired and distracted driving. The special traffic enforcement campaign is supported in part by grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

Officials are encouraging fans to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and make responsible choices behind the wheel as they enjoy the weekend’s festivities.
