Lincoln Police are reminding residents that help is available when speeding becomes a problem in their neighborhood. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says each of its community policing teams has access to a speed trailer, with the Southeast Team operating two of the devices. Residents can request the trailers for areas where speeding is a concern.
The trailers do more than display a driver’s speed. Police say the devices collect valuable traffic data, including how many vehicles are speeding, the times of day violations are most common, and how fast drivers are traveling.
That information helps officers identify problem areas and determine when enforcement efforts will be most effective. By analyzing the data, the department can better deploy officers to conduct targeted traffic enforcement in locations and at times where speeding is most prevalent.
LPD encourages residents who are concerned about speeding in their neighborhoods to contact their community policing team to inquire about a speed trailer placement.
