City Reminds Lincoln Residents About Fireworks Rules

By Tom Stanton Jun 29, 2026 | 11:20 AM

The City of Lincoln is reminding residents to celebrate the Fourth of July safely and follow the city’s fireworks ordinances. Permissible fireworks may only be sold and used from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 3 and from 8 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on July 4.

City law also prohibits firing fireworks from or into vehicles, onto streets or sidewalks, at people, into buildings, or onto someone else’s property. Lincoln Fire and Rescue urges families to leave fireworks to responsible adults and never allow children to light them.

LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says sparklers can burn at temperatures of up to 1,200 degrees and recommends giving children glow sticks instead. She also advises keeping fireworks away from dry grass and other flammable materials, having a bucket of water or hose nearby, and never trying to relight a firework that fails to go off.

To report fireworks violations, residents should call the Lincoln Police non-emergency number at 402-441-6000 and be prepared to provide the address or location of the violation. Call 911 only for emergencies.
