Thousands of University of Nebraska-Lincoln students will begin moving into campus residence halls Sunday as the university prepares to welcome students for the 2026-27 academic year.
About 5,760 students are expected to move into residence halls over the next week to 10 days, including roughly 3,900 incoming first-year students and 1,730 returning, transfer and graduate students. About 130 student staff members, including resident assistants, also live in the residence halls.
For the second consecutive year, Memorial Stadium will serve as the central check-in location for students using curbside move-in. Students and families will check in at the stadium before heading to their assigned residence halls, where move-in crews will help unload vehicles and deliver belongings to student rooms.
“For many students and families, move-in is their first experience on campus, so we want that welcome to feel distinctly Nebraska,” said Matt Nelson, UNL’s director of Residence Life. “Memorial Stadium provides an iconic starting point while allowing us to create a smooth, organized move-in experience.”
Housing and Dining Services staff, student volunteers and campus partners will be on hand to answer questions and help families settle in. Move-in also marks the beginning of Big Red Welcome, a series of events designed to help students connect with one another and find campus resources before classes begin.
UNL officials are warning faculty, staff and visitors to expect increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic around Memorial Stadium, residence halls and other parts of campus during move-in and Big Red Welcome. Temporary parking and traffic changes will be in effect, with some permit holders being directed to alternate parking areas.
