The sun came out late Wednesday afternoon after a round of severe thunderstorms brought heavy rain and flooding to parts of Lincoln Wednesday afternoon. The quick moving storms flooded streets and creeks on the northeast side of town.
At least one vehicle became stranded under the bridge near 48th and Cornhusker due to the rapidly rising water, resulting in the rescue of a woman. 10/11 Chief Meteorologist Brad Anderson says the fast-moving storms produced a significant amount of rain in about 30 minutes.
“We did get reports of over 2-3 inches of rainfall, especially in northern Lancaster County, but certainly some northeastern parts of the city could have gotten more.” In contrast, Anderson says just over an inch of rain fell at the airport and the 10/11 studios at 40th and Vine.
KLIN News saw many drivers splashing and sloshing their way through heavy street flooding near 69th and Fremont and around 70th and Cotner. The severe weather has moved out of the area and it will be a quiet night ahead.
