Lincoln Police say a bicycle rider was struck by a vehicle Wednesday night at 20th and ‘A’ Streets. LPD says the vehicle was westbound on ‘A’ and had a green light while the bicycle was southbound on on 20th Street approaching a stop sign around 9:30 p.m.
The driver told officers the bicycle pulled into the intersection and she was unable to avoid the collision. The woman estimated she was going between 30 and 35 miles per hour. A witness told police the bicycle was traveling at a high rate of speed, had no lights, and did not stop at the stop sign before turning west onto A Street.
The witness said the bicycle made a wide turn onto ‘A’ Street before colliding with the vehicle. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the bicyclist was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition due to a serious brain bleed.
