Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen unveiled a new online voter registration system Tuesday that puts several election-related services in one place. The new platform combines Nebraska’s VoterCheck website with its online voter registration form. Nebraskans can use the system to register to vote, update their registration information, change their party affiliation, find their polling place and check the status of an early voting or provisional ballot.
The system was launched on National Voter Registration Day. Evnen encouraged eligible Nebraskans who are not registered to sign up and urged those already registered to verify their information, including their mailing address. “Americans are fortunate to have the right to make our voices heard at the ballot box,” Evnen said. “We’re proud to unveil this new online voter registration system to make it simpler than ever to fulfill our civic duty.”
The Secretary of State’s Office says the new system is also expected to reduce the workload for county election officials by streamlining registration and reducing duplicate applications.
The deadline to register online for Nebraska’s Nov. 3 general election is Oct. 16. Seventeen-year-olds who will turn 18 on or before Election Day and otherwise meet eligibility requirements can register now. The Secretary of State’s Office also allows eligible voters to register in person at their county election office after the online deadline, subject to the later in-person registration deadline.
