Lincoln and Lancaster County residents can drop off unwanted household chemicals at two free HazToGo collection events this weekend. “They can bring all of those unwanted chemicals to us, and we will manage them safely,” said Sarah Mason, an environmental health educator with the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.
The first drive-through event is Friday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 6 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 375 Lincoln St. in Malcolm. The second is Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Star City Shores, 4375 S. 33rd Court in Lincoln.
Accepted items include pesticides, household cleaners, oil-based paint, old gasoline, antifreeze and batteries. Latex paint, electronics, medicines, gas grill cylinders and ammunition will not be accepted. The events are for household waste, not business waste.
Residents should place chemicals in a leak-proof tote in their trunk, pickup bed or rear cargo area. HazToGo staff will unload the items from the vehicle. For more information about the events, visit HazToGo.com or call 402-441-8021.
