Lincoln police are investigating 12 reports this year of fuel tanks being damaged or gasoline being siphoned from vehicles. Four of the cases occurred in the past six weeks, including two in the past week, police said Wednesday.
In eight cases, someone cut or drilled a hole in a fuel tank. The other four involved siphoning or an attempt to siphon gasoline. Police estimate the damage at $6,350, plus more than $600 worth of gasoline.
The two most recent reports came Sept. 17 near South 51st Street and Sept. 21 near South Cotner Boulevard and C Street. Police said they do not know whether the same person is responsible for the cases. A suspect in one case was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
