Lincoln will celebrate the fall season with a new community festival. The inaugural Haymarket Harvest is scheduled for October 24th from 2 to 10 p.m., featuring more than 60 local vendors, food and drinks, family activities and live music.
Organizer Becca Fowler, a facilitator with Lincoln-based event cooperative Curated, says the event grew out of conversations among local Haymarket businesses looking for a way to bring the community together.
“We’re talking about wanting to put together a fun harvest, like a Gilmore Girl-esque event, because we didn’t have one in the Haymarket,” Fowler tells KLIN News. The festival will stretch from 7th and P Streets toward Iron Horse Park, with activities and vendors throughout the enclosed area.
Vendors will be on hand from 2 to 6 p.m., while a concert series in collaboration with Kinkaider will run from 2 to 10 p.m. Attendees can also take part in a Bites Trail and Bar Trail, featuring small food and cocktail offerings at participating Haymarket and downtown restaurants and bars. Those trails will require an additional fee, but admission to the festival itself is free.
Fowler says organizers have received strong community support and are hoping to attract anywhere from 500 to a few thousand people for the first event. She says the festival will be family-friendly, with a playground, food trucks and a beer garden.
Fowler encourages residents to make a day of it and enjoy the fall festivities in downtown Lincoln.
