A virtual Veterans Day ceremony was held Thursday in Lincoln to honor the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniforms in times of peace and war.

“We honor them for all that they have done in ensuring that America is able to continue to serve as a beacon of hope, prosperity and freedom for countless people around the world,” says Brigadier General Kevin Lyons, the Assistant Adjutant General for the Nebraska Army National Guard.

Lyons was the featured speaker and challenged Lincoln residents to seek out a veteran or the family of a veteran and thank them for their service, and not just today.

“I want you to continue to do this throughout a year.  Find a veteran, offer to help them out, visit a veterans home and volunteer your time. While they may sometimes seem like big commitments, they’re really not.”  The virtual ceremony was  held at Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park.

The 23rd annual Veterans Walk of Recognition was also held Thursday and went from Memorial Stadium to the Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park.  “We’re trying to put the veterans back in Veterans Day.  It’s not a convenience day” says event leader Gaylen Young.
