Lincoln Police continue their investigation into a deadly crash near 52nd and O Street late Sunday night. The crash killed two people in one the vehicles involved in the crash and injured more than a dozen onlookers during the event Americruise.
Investigators say around 10:47 pm a black Ford Taurus was travelling westbound on O Street when it struck a white Toyota Corolla that was facing eastbound. After the initial impact, both vehicles were forced onto the north sidewalk of O Street, west of North 52nd Street, striking multiple people where crowds were standing and seated to observe the event. LPD says two females in one of the vehicles were killed in the crash
LPD says one of the bystanders is currently in critical condition with the others hurt sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. “The Lincoln Police Department offers their condolences to the family and friends of those who were killed as a result of this incident. We will work tirelessly to determine what occurred and hold those responsible for this tragedy accountable,” the department said in a statement.
“This is an ongoing investigation. We do not believe, nor is there any evidence this was an intentional act. This investigation is ongoing and LPD is asking anyone who witnessed this crash to come forward with any information they may have regarding this case, including video or photographic evidence.”
LPD says anyone with information is asked to call their non-emergency number at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600. Those calls can remain anonymous.
Bryan Health officials says they cared for 10 people injured in the mass casualty incident. Seven went to the Bryan West Campus and three were treated at the Bryan East Campus. Of those 10, two were admitted, one in critical condition and one in serious condition. Eight patients were treated and released.
CHI Health St. Elizabeth received 10 patients from the incident. Of those 10, seven were treated and released and 3 were admitted to the hospital. One of those patients has since been released and two others are in good condition.
