Smoke and flames forced a Lincoln family out of their home near 41st and A around 6:00 Sunday morning. LFR Captain Nancy Crist says when crews arrived they determined that the fire had actually started in the basement and spread up into the kitchen area.
“The ultimate cause was an overloaded outlet that had a space heater plugged into it and that outlet couldn’t handle that,” Crist says. LFR crews rescued one cat from the house.
There were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated to be $175,000.
