Last week (11/9), Country Music Association hosted an award show on TV. I find it interesting to see what happens after a major televised event: record sales, new music, and YouTube clicks.
Some of these performances were uploaded multiple times. The Kelsea Ballerini, Kelly Clarkson and Carly Pearce, video was on their individual channels, and the CMA and ABC accounts. It could have been the most YouTube’d performance but the Alan Jackson Tribute Performance by Dierks Bentley, Jon Pardi, Carrie Underwood and Lainey Wilson brought in 608K views. The Loretta Lynn Opening Tribute with Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood brought in 579K views.
Other than the tributes, the Chris Stapleton with Patty Loveless tune “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” stole the show with 455K views. Yet, if I were to add all the views from the Kelsea, Kelly, and Carly song, it would be in that range too.
. . . after the Stapleton/Timberlake performance back in 2016(?), the CMAs have turned into the Staple-tonies. Amazing he brought out Patty Loveless. I hope the CMAs let Stapleton do whatever he wants.
The lowest views went to Luke Bryan “Country On” at 39K.
The lowest views for a special collaboration went to Brothers Osborne with The War And Treaty on “It’s Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It)” with 55K views.
. . . I would think the Stones would be a hit and Bros Oz would be great but not a lot of love.
Cole Swindell got 207K views with “She Had Me At Heads Carolina” and he brought out Jo Dee Messina! Another number one hit “You Proof” by Morgan Wallen got 52K views. Huge difference! Actually most of the tunes that are proven hits didn’t get a lot of views. Meanwhile, the new stuff from Carrie and Carly did well.
. . . don’t be surprised if “Hate My Heart” and “Dear Miss Loretta” are number ones soon. Miranda’s Geraldine? Maybe not so soon.
With current duets HARDY featuring Lainey Wilson “wait in the truck” got 283K views and then a drop in views (197K) with Thomas Rhett and Katy Perry “Where We Started”
. . . probably not going to be a single anytime soon?
But for a song that didn’t have any special guests and no surprises was Cody Johnson “‘Til You Can’t” at 118K views.
. . .we’ll be hearing that song for the rest of our lives. Well deserved!
For another perspective, the opening monologue for hosts Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning hit 158K views.
