Seward County Woman Arrested For Assaulting Mother, Deputy

By Tom Stanton Feb 1, 2024 | 12:21 PM

A Utica woman was arrested after a nearly seven hour standoff that began Wednesday afternoon.  Seward County deputies were called to a home around 1:30 p.m. after receiving a report that 22-year-old Nicole Nisly had hit her mother in the head with a frying pan.

The Nebraska State Patrol says when deputies arrived they found Nisly in a bedroom and was threatening to harm to herself and her child.  Investigators say as deputies entered the bedroom Nisly assaulted one of the deputies with a knife.

Nisly then barricaded herself inside the house with her child.   NSP crisis negotiators and the SWAT team were called in and Nisly eventually allowed the child to leave the home unharmed, but she again barricaded herself inside a bedroom.

A short time later the SWAT team made entry into the bedroom and Nisly was taken into custody without further incident. The sheriff’s department says the deputy that was injured was treated at the scene and stayed until the situation was resolved and was then treated and released at Seward Memorial Hospital for a minor injury.
