A Groundhog Day tradition continued Friday morning in the village of Unadilla as Nebraska’s ground hog made her prediction.  Organizer Bob Brandt says  Unadilla Billie, a taxidermy mounted groundhog was brought out at 7:33 a.m. and did not see her shadow.

“Not seeing her shadow she’s singing a tune.  Soon there will be red roses and spring will be here soon.”  This was the third year for Unadilla Billie’s prediction.  She replaced Unadilla Bill after 33 years.

In Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow either and also predicted an early spring. Phil has only been accurate about 40% of the time over the past 100 years. The 36th annual Groundhog Day celebration in Unadilla will be held on Saturday.  Festivities include a parade, the crowning of the Groundhog King and Queen, live music and photos with Billie.
