UNL’s East Campus Discovery Days and Farmers Market is back this Saturday for it’s first (of three) installments this summer.
The family-friendly events are “part farmers market, and part science-fair,” according to event manager Jordan Slagle, with 50+ booths slated to be set up on the East Campus Mall from from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10.
The festival provides the community an opportunity to learn more about research, teaching and extension work within the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as well as farmers market staples like food trucks, live music, and a variety of vendors selling goods such as fresh flowers, coffee, baked goods, handmade jewelry and bath products.
Children will be able to practice their roping skills at the Rodeo Club booth, and visitors can support several Husker students who have launched businesses as part of the university’s Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program. Other highlights include produce grown locally by Tribal Extension and a race car built by the Husker Racing Baja Society of Engineers.
“These events give families a chance to see these activities in real life because they’re usually working behind the scenes, and this brings it to kids and families who may not get to see this stuff on a normal basis,” said Slagle.
Vendor applications for July and August are still being accepted. Vendors can visit discoverydays.unl.edu and click on the “Join Us” tab to get registered.
