a 21-year-old Lincoln man is facing several charges after fleeing from Nebraska State Patrol troopers Monday night.  Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas says  around 10:15 p.m. a trooper tried to stop a Ford Focus for driving without taillights near 14th and Superior.

“The driver refused to yield and accelerated westbound on Superior,” Thomas says.  “The vehicle then turned southbound and continued fleeing on 1st Street, reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour.”  Thomas says when the vehicle ran a red light at 1st and Cornhusker the NSP helicopter took over the pursuit from the air and the trooper on the ground discontinued.

“NSP pilots tracked the fleeing vehicle as it turned back northbound and eventually came to a stop in a parking lot near 14th and Adams,” Thomas says.  “Pilots then observed the driver flee on foot and attempt to hide in a tree line.”

Troopers and LPD officers arrived on scene and an LPD K9 was used to track the Tajzier Johnson.   He was found around 11:00 p.m. and was taken into custody without further incident.  Johnson was arrested for felony flight to avoid arrest, failure to obey a lawful order and several traffic violations.
