Wednesday marks 23 years since the 9/11 attacks and LFR will be hosting a public remembrance event at it’s fire station at 18th and Q Street beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The event will include a combined Lincoln-Lancaster County Honor Guard presentation of Colors, the singing of the National Anthem and a Lincoln Emergency Communications Center Radio Dispatch Announcement and moment of silence.
LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the mayor and fire chief will also be speaking during the ceremony. The public will also will be invited to join LFR in the 9/11 Day of Service campaign and Remembrance Blood Drive.
“Our goal is to have a unit of blood collected for everyone who lost their life that day,” Lierman says. “We have a couple of other activities like hands only CPR and becoming an organ donor if you’re not able to give blood.”
