Lincoln Children Ready to ‘Shop With a Cop’

Some Lincoln children will get the thrill of a lifetime this Sunday. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says they will go on a holiday shopping spree at Scheels during the annual ‘Shop With a Cop’ event.

“The kids are selected and then they’re partnered up with law enforcement and then they have a budget that is donated by Scheels.”   Thomas says they can go around the store and pick out anything they want.

Last year the shoppers picked out a variety of things, from clothes to shoes to a bicycle. Thomas says ‘Shop With A Cop’  is an event that officers look forward to every year.  “It’s just a great chance for our officers to get to connect with kids in the community, have that bonding time, especially around the holidays, and then hopefully give them some holiday cheer to bring home.”

In addition to filling their carts with whatever they desire,  Thomas says many kids pick out items for their siblings or parents.  “It’s a lot of fun, especially at Scheels.  They get to go on the Ferris wheel.”
