A teenager wanted by Lincoln Police was arrested Tuesday after being hit by a car.  LPD says investigators with the Gang Unit were looking for the 17-year-old male, who was a suspect in a weapons violation and fleeing from an officer in a stolen 2005 red BMW on May 26th in the area of 27th and O Street.

On Tuesday investigators observed the red BMW driving in the area of 27th and N Street before it parked in the 200 block of S 27th Street.  Officer Erin Spilker says officers observed the driver walk across 27th Street from where the vehicle was parked and enter a residence.

Investigators then approached the vehicle and found it unoccupied.  They ran the VIN on the vehicle and determined the vehicle was reported stolen from Grand Island.  Around 12:30 pm, the teen came out of the residence and walked towards the vehicle when he saw police.  Spilker says he then fled on foot eastbound across 27th Street and was struck by a southbound vehicle.

While on the ground, investigators ran towards him telling him to stop and that he was under arrest.  Spilker says he then got up and started to run until investigators took him into custody.

During a search, officers found a loaded Glock handgun with an extended 31 round magazine.  They also found $228 cash and 112 grams of suspected methamphetamine.   The teen was taken by ambulance to a local area hospital but his injuries were not serious.

Felony charges are pending.  Investigators are working with Juvenile Probation who determined that the 17-year-old would be placed at the Youth Assessment upon his release from the hospital as he also had an active juvenile warrant.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the teen was not cited for any offenses and did not report any injuries as a result of the accident.  The damage to his vehicle was estimated around $1,000.
